Xtreamer Ultra Media Streamer / HTPC to Debut at CeBIT 2011

Why settle for a high-powered media streamer like the Boxee Box when you can get one that can double as an HTPC as well?

Well, that’s what Xtreamer is looking to offer with its new mini-ITX Xtreamer Ultra product, set to debut at CeBIT next month. The Xtreamer Ultra is an “aggressively priced” media streamer / HTPC that can be loaded with a Windows or Linux-based operating system compatible with popular media center applications like Windows Media Center, MediaPortal, Boxee, XBMC, and others (Note: it’s unclear if Xtreamer is planning to load their OS on the device by default).

Of course, you can also use Xtreamer Ultra as a dedicated home PC. Spec. highlights: Intel Atom D525 (dual-core 1.8GHz) processor, 4GB DDR3 memory, NVIDIA ION2 (GT218, 512MB DDR3), eSATA, 6 x USB 2.0 ports, 2.5-inch SATA drive bay, DVI-I, SPDIF, HDMI with 7.1-Channel digital audio BitStreaming + LPCM, external IR, and Gigabit Ethernet (optional external 802.11n adapter will be available).

Xtreamer says Ultra also supports external eSATA or USB Blu-ray drives, if interested. No word on the price just yet, but it sounds like they’ll be gunning for a price point near Boxee Box’s $199 MSRP. UPDATE: Xtreamer Ultra is €200 or about $272 USD.

With the launch of Xtreamer Ultra! we will continue in 2011 to achieve our compelling mission of being a leading provider of FULL HD comprehensive media centers encapsulated into a very compact unit yet very capable devices in a very aggressive price tag. The Xtreamer Ultra, is mainly aimed for the setting of a completely new standard of the Linux, XBMC and Boxee communities and the industry of media streamers as we know of it today.
