1. Play MKV video files in Windows Media Center
If you're planning on using an extender try the DivX package, which includes a media foundation based splitter for mkv's (see 6 below).
2. Increase the number of supported tuners
If you're already using the excellent BigScreenEPG to import your guide listings you can also use this to up the tuner limit. Instructions are included in the help file for BSEPG.
6. Convert MKV files for use with an extender
With Windows7 there is no need to convert your files, just download the DivX package which includes a Media Foundation splitter for MKV files. This enables MKVs to be played back on an extender (I've personally tested on an xbox 360) without conversion.
There are some rare MKVs that have compression headers which do not playback well, to fix these use TSMuxer to convert to mt2s to remove the compression headers. The extender will play these files back as well.
13. Add channel logos to your WMC TV guide
BigScreenEPG also includes this functionality as part of the wider suite of functions.

1. Play MKV video files in Windows Media Center
If you intend playback of large mkv's for 64bit Windows 7, you are better using 64bit haali media splitter, Gabest's splitter has issues with large mkv file splitting, and has not been updated since 2006.

I had passed a comment to a friend recently saying I needed something like this..I'm getting older and it's easy to forget things , particularly in what has been a very long evolution from the old XPMC through VMC to 7MC. Great stuff Mike and the rest of you guys !! Thank you all.

9. Convert WTV files to DVR-MS automatically
I foolishly followed the steps for this one. Now I have an entire library of recorded tv with audio but no video. I installed the DVRMStoolbox with the defaults and then just followed the steps you listed. It has deleted the old files so I'm screwed. Not pleased.

I would advise against the DIVX option for MKV playback to Extenders if you have a 5.1 surround system as your main HTPC. IT will break all 5.1 AC3/DTS and convert to PCM Stereo. You can convert MKV to AVI/M2TS so long as it is AC3 (Not DTS) and it will stream to the XBOX (minus ffwd/rrwd Skipping). If you use subtitles and chapters withing the MKV, then this is also not an option.

Windows Media Center is a solid piece of software which works elegantly if you're sitting at your desk, and equally well if you're reclining on your sofa, waving a remote control and watching a movie.
