Hi all,

recently installed all the bits and pieces needed to convert my usual desktop to a media pc, but now in media centre i am getting an error. I have watched TV using the included program, so it seems the tuner is working ok.. but media centre seems to think otherwise.

I'm using a (kworld?) xpert vstream dvb-t card, which I picked up from a mate for $80 AUS. Install went smoothly on both xp mce and the tuner driver, but i cant get it to work.

The error im getting is:
Files needed to display video are missing or corrupt.

I have done a fair bit of searching, some people have recommended reinstalling the tv tuner drivers once again but they seem to be ok, i.e i get picture and sound in dvtr program included.

If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear from you.. Hopefully I can get this card working.. everyone else seems to be able to get it to work eventually...

Thanks again,

Tim.

Just to cover off the abvious, have you installed a codec (PureVideo, Cyblink PowerDVD6, etc)? MCE does dot ship with a codec.

Yeah after doing a bit of searching I installed the powerdvd 5 CD i had, assuming this would work..

Still couldn't get it going so I thought I'd join up and see if one of you friendly people could help :P

Just wondering, could it be the xpert vstream dvb-t card I have, I am looking to actually buy another cheap one, and sell this back to my mate (he misses his TV as well lol).. just wondering what is the cheapest card that is usually available, that isn't too hard to setup with MCE.

Also I have MCE 2004 apparently I will update this tonight to MCE 2005.
Any other ideas though?

Cheers,

Tim.

I have the same card, though no longer in my mce pc, and I was only able to get it to play nicely after installing latest drivers (4.0.108.4 ??) and rollup2 (for mce). After this it worked quite well. You can get the drivers here ...

http://www.kworld.co...ad_dvb-t100.htm

Also, I'm not sure powerdvd 5 decoder cuts it ... try going for version 6 or, another popular option, nvidia purevideo. You can at least download and try the trial versions for each from their respective sites (cyberlink, nvidia).

Definitely recommend going for latest drivers and rollup2 for sure!

Cheers.

HI,

Not using this codec myself, I can't say for sure, but from what I've read there is a patch for that version that will allow it to work with MCE but it is not natively supported.

The patch should be available from Cyberlink.

Definitely sound like a codec issue. Don't be disappointed if Purevideo doesn't work for you, it's never worked for me.

Ok well I will install a friends version of powerdvd6 to see if that works.. I have MCE 2004.. will I have to get MCE 2005 to get this rollup 2 thingo?

Also I'm having troubles with the guide, I have bladerunnner pro v3 and oztivo.. OzTivo finds the channels I wants and downloads a file, but only when I run it from command line interface with the appropriate arguements.

Bladerunner gives an error, which I have searched up on, but no-one actually posted what was wrong with there setup. I'm thinking that it may be that my eHome directory is not C:\Windows\eHome as per usual, mine is C:\WINMCE\eHome..

Any ideas?

btw the error was

Deleting old guide data...

Grabbing new guide data...

WHOOPS, Process failed, please refer to any errors...

System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The system cannot find the file specified at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithCreateProcess(ProcessStartInfo startInfo)
at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start()
at BladeRunner.MainClass.MyProcess(String myFile, String myArg)
at BladeRunner.MainClass.Main(String[] args)

Press any key to continue...
_

Any ideas on that one?

Cheers guys,

Tim.

Rollup2 is actually an update (like a service pack) to mce2005, so yes you will need it (2005 that is). As for brp error, I think you're much better updating mce first and get all that sorted out before even considering any issues with the guide... I'm not too sure many people here actually use an older version of media centre.

Yeah, I updated powerdvd to version6 and its still giving me the error. I'll try to get my hands on MCE2005 sometime today, should be able to get it no problems.. so ill have to get back to you all on that one.

As for the rollup, will this download from the windows update page? Or is it something I have to find deep within the microsoft site.

Cheers all,

Tim.

the rollup is in the OPTIONAL COMPONENTS for the M$ Updates...so it won't happen with the Automatic Updates, only if you do it manually

for BRP, you need JAVA installed...that MAY be your issue...

Yeah i'll go with that..fresh install of xp mce, no java installed yet. I'll also try that.

Is there an easier way to get MCE 2005 from 2004.. surely I don't need to get the whole MCE2005 pack just to update the actual MCE component..

Anyhoo I'll try this java see how it goes.

Thanks guys :)

HI,
I am having an issue with media centre, was working well and able to watch TV through it last week then moved computer to new desk and now when opening up the to watch live TV I get the following messages:

Video Error
“Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly – restart media centre or restart windows.” – tried that no luck.

Playing DVD’s and other functions are fine, guide etc. work ok just the TV side of things. I am running a HP 610 touch smart pc (Windows 7 home premium, 64bit) all in one with built in TV tuner, which I assume is working. Checked the device manager which states that it is Ok (if card faulty guide would not work but it is). Went to HP website and downloaded latest driver for the TV tuner (AVerMedia H323 MiniCard Hybrid DVB-T). Sill no luck. Removed the media centre from windows options, rebooted and re applied media centre , again no luck. Any thought would be good. I can now only assume that either auto updated for HP have overwritten the drivers or a configuration setting has changed somehow.

As I said, if the problems appears straightforward and the solution appears to be simple, I'm willing to try it. Otherwise, I believe that the effort involved in trying to fix it may well overwhelm the benefits. After all, I can always view the videos in the second user.
