Nasty offset for 3D shows
#1

firstly, I haven't really used the 3D option on my Samsung TV before, but thought I'd give it a try with CH9's 3D Olympics coverage.
3D mode works, but the problem is that I get a nasty offset, ie I can see the 3D CH9 Logo 3 times when wearing the glasses.
The LCD is connected to the Media Center PC via DVI, display settings in both Windows 7 desktop settings and Media Center itself are set to 1080p, 50Hz.
Any ideas how to get rid of the offset?
Thanks!
Steve

hhmm, i'm fairly sure you need HDMI 1.4a video card and high speed HDMI cable, for steroscopic 3D to work properly.
Based on what I've read so far, HDMI 1.4a is required to use frame packing, but not for the side by side frames? Not sure that this has got anything to do with the offset/ghosting?

I had a similar issue watching Side By Side Movie. Turns out i was in one of the Zoom (Aspect) modes. Make sure your Zoom setting is set to normal (1:1).

yes it works fine with the TV's internal tuner.
Innie, aspect modes are greyed out on my Samsung when watching 3D, otherwise it's set to 16:9. There's also no scaling or overscan set in the video card's display settings.
I'm using a fairly old ATI Radeon HD 3000 graphics card, not sure whether that's the issue? Standard TV runs fine at 1080p, 50Hz.

like i said, HDMI 1.4a is required for 3D video, this includes side by side, suggest you have a read of this
3D technology is evolving rapidly, with several competing approaches under development, so the HDMI 1.4 specification establishes protocols for a number of popular 3D display methods, including:
•Frame, line, or field alternative methods
•Side by side methods (full and half)
•2D plus depth methods
So, an ATI 6xxx GPU, and HDMI 1.4a mobo and cable is required.

I am using a new GT520, and a hdmi 1.4 cable. Seems odd that the other mkv's work just fine, and not the FTA 3D.
I have also checked the zoom, as this has caused problems for me in the past when playing other 3D content, and that is not the issue. It's driving me mad....
Anyone else having the same problem???

I am having the same problem. other 3d mkv's work just fine, as does the channel 9 3d broadcast through the tv's tuner, but through WMC I get the same "ghosting".

it could be your overscan settings on your WMC display settings (or similarly the one on your graphics driver) cutting off different parts of the picture (keeping in mind the tv needs to get all the pixels on margins to match it up properly with the other side). I was messing with this on my parents 3dvt (lg cinema3d) last time they had the test channels and it seemed that this made a bit of a difference to how the 3d was rendered with SBS (including fixing flickering and how close the image appeared to float in front of you).

Thanks for this. I bought HD6450 today. Unfortunately the TV doesn't seem to get a signal from the video card once the AMD drivers are installed. Bios screen shows, Windows 7 flying dots boot up sequence shows, then blank screen and "no signal" message on the Samsung LCD.
The display is currently connected with a DVI cable.
Before rushing out to buy a new cable, I just wanted to confirm whether I definitely need a HDMI cable for the 3D to work, or whether a DVI cable will do as well?
I've got the audio through SPDF and connected to my dolby surround system, so don't need any audio to my TV.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks, I've had a play with the settings, but the problem continues. Very annoying. Oh well, we aren't doing any good anyway!

The offset I experienced previously is still there, exactly the same. Feeding the channel 9 3D channel directly into the TV, without using the Media Centre, gives me a perfet picture.
Media Centre is set to 1080p 50Hz, my Samsung LCD doesn't allow me to change the picture mode (16:9, Zoom, etc), once it's in 3D mode.
This is getting very frustrating :-(
Any other suggestions would be really appreciated!

For some reason, this same connector is also labelled "DVI" on a different port of the TV though?
In any case, I've tried to plug the cable into both the DVI and HDMI ports of the TV (different ports, but same shape as just mentioned), but no improvement on the 3D offset.
