Hi Guys,

No doubt this has been covered before but I could not seem to locate any information... due to a lack in disk space (64GB SSD) I am wondering if it is possible to record TV directly to my NAS? I have tried moving the Live TV Buffer to an external USB without too much joy (worked but there were problems with stuttering etc) and hoping that moving Recorded TV is easier??

Cheers

Your lack of doubt is correct: http://www.pcmediace...networked-drive

Moving recorded TV is the better option, rather than trying to record straight to the network.

I use a USB stick as a live TV buffer and it works well. Occasionally it gets confused and I have to run a repair over it( repair bad sectors or something like that.)

You have to get a quality USB stick that can handle the data flow.

I have 5 tuners and they use 8.28 gig.

I followed these instructions to set it up:-

I have Windows Home Server (WHS) 2011 running on a "server" at home, and this includes the capability to archive recordings from 7MC to WHS. Works really well, and WHS ocosts around $60 and does automated backups and a whole lot more.

I used to use the free Drasch's Recorded TV Manager to move recordings after a couple of hours - my logic was if we hadn't watched it after 4 hours, we weren't going to watch it that day, so move it to the server.

Cheers,
Jeff

I agree that moving TV is a better option then watching it and currently use Recorded TV Manager to do so. Unfortunately, due to the size of my SSD and the amount of room reserved for the Live TV buffer, I was constantly getting the "Insufficient storage.." error message. That is why I went down the path of moving the Live TV buffer to USB. When I initally did this (using a 16Gb Corsair), I assigned 4GB to ReadyBoost anf had it formatted as exFat. This was still giving me the "Insufficient storage.." error message from time to time. So, I last night formatted as NTFS, disabled ReadyBoost and so far (from my limited observations last night) all appears OK. Fingers crossed it continues to do the job. One thing I did try without any luck was reducing the LiveTV Pause Buffer - I know this can be increased, but does not seem possible to decrease. This would have nice to do...

I have been thinking about a WHS for a while now and eventually will get there - for right now, hopefully the USB continues to work OK and if not, I guess a bigger HDD will be the next best option.

Do you have the OS on the SSD? I use an SSD for the OS and the system told me I could not use readyboost because I was using an SSD and there was no gain - or words to that effect.
