Hi all,

I'm looking to start a new build using a Streacom FC5 chassis.
It's a completely passively cooled rig.
My intention is to use a Gigabyte GA-A75M-UD2H with an AMD A8-3800 CPU. This is to keep the power below the 65W mark.
I guess the main question I have is whether or not the system will be up to the task of playing Blurays (not 3D) on a 50" plasma,
viewing & maybe recording live TV via a USB tuner and streaming from my main machine in the study.
I need HDMI for the TV and optical S/PDIF out for the amp.
I already have an OCZ Agility 3 120GB for the OS (which will be Win7 Home Premium) and I have a couple of laptop drives I could use for the occasional recording.

Does anyone think I've missed something or can suggest another Mobo/CPU combo that might work better? Remembering that I'll have everything connected to the back panel.

Cheers, Dale

There's a new A10 CPU that might be worth looking at, but what you've listed will be powerful enough.

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the reply.
The A10 hasn't had an official release in the desktop configuration yet, have they? Everything I read seems to indicate the mobile version.
Anyway, I'll be happy if I can make it work with the A8.

Cheers, Dale

Hmm. Looks like my main problem is going to be getting hold of an A8-3800.
The only place I've found is from China through eBay.

Yeah, the A10 is mobile, but I thought I read about an mITX config the other day.

The A8s seem to in really short supply.

This should do the trick? I was thinking of getting one, but not sure about which M/B. Want a Micro ATX.

Available AMD A8's are 100 W TDP, i note the Streacom FC5 states 65 W TDP, so you would be better to consider the AMD A6 3500 ( with the AMD HD6530D IGP ), it is listed as 65 W TDP.

See here for 1 x AMCC user happily using the AMD A6 3500 ( with the AMD HD6530D IGP ).
