Hi,

I have had media centres for years going back to XP. I have never had tuner problems til now.

I have 2 Win 7 machines with internal Quad tuners and they are running fine.

I have a 3rd machine that was running vista and was using a usb tuner fine.

I just upgraded it to Win 7 and now the Channel scan finds no channels.

In an attempt to fix it, I did a fresh install of 7 rather than my original upgrade from vista - no change.

I am using a Leadtek single usb tuner.

In case it was the tuner, I borrowed another of the same tuner that is running fine on a Win 7 media centre at my work - no change.

I have made sure I have the latest drivers.

I have also borrowed a firend's Kaiser Baas Tv Stick Dual and dowloaded the latest drivers - no change.

I installed the total media 3.5 that came with the Kaiser Baas Tv Stick and it can scann all channels and play/record fine.

It seems that the isse is in Win 7.

Ideas?? Any help would be much appreciated because I don't know what to try next?

Cheers

Shane

ohhh ...
I forgot to add that to eliminate the possibility of it being a cable/socket issue (even though a tv can receive the signal fine when plugged into the same cable), I have also moved the machine to another room and used the same cable/socket that is working fine on another Win 7 MC.

Cheers

Does the scan take a reasonable amount of time (minute or two)? Just trying to work out if it is actually scanning.

Also, are you Windows regional settings set to Australia?

Hi Justin,

It takes about 10 minutes.

My Regional Settings are set to Australia and that is confirmed during the Tv Signal Setup in MC.

If I try to re-scan in Total Media while the MC scan is underway it says that the tuner is is use by another application. This would seem to suggest that at least MC is trying to use the tuner.

Thanks

Shane

Sorry No idea's but I have the same issue.
I have 3 Windows 7 media centers two have no problems one has the same issue as you are describing.

The two that are working are both 64 bit ones and the one not working is 32bit. The tuners are the same all round and if moved work in the to 64bit ones.

as you have done I have tested the cable by connecting direct to the TV tuner and that works 100%

Did anybody find the cause of this issue? I've just done a fresh 32bit install and am having the same thing. Oddly I setup media portal just to verify that it wasn't a driver issue, and it picks up the signals no worries. mce isn't playing ball. I'm using hauppauge 2200 tuners.

Man, I'm going through this right now. 2 Days without live tv and counting....

My Media Center has been chugging along for a good 2+ years, Live TV all good. Then the Channel 9 EPG started screwing up, then Tuner conflicts started happening.

So, To fix the problem, i decided to remove the Manually installed drivers for the DIGIAL NOW Hybrid DUAL PCIe, PINNACLE PCIe Hybrid Dual Tuner and an old DIVCO Lite.

Pulled The Divco Lite out.

Reran hardware detection and allowed the Microsoft Signed drivers to install against the Tuners.

Bought SMovies "TUNEUP", which is a great little utility. All 4 Tuners (2 Digital now, 2 pinnacle) showing 100 on the signal rating.

Back to Mediacenter, Reset up TV Signal, tick all 4 tuners, scan for channels...........NADAH. NOTHING. Scans for 10 minutes, NOTHING.

So, i have tried every trick in the book.

* Run MCRECOVERYTASK in Schedulers, I RAN THE PVRRECOVERYTASK aswell, (not sure what that does).

* Deleted the WHOLE EHOME folder in desperation. Mediacenter recreated new files and folders when TV SIGNAL setup was done again.

* Delete Tuner registry information. (Also recreated by MC)

* Reran the Media Center setup from Scratch.

* applied the "Weak Signal Threshold" registry hack

So it seems changing Drivers on the Tuners can destroy the Tuner info that MC uses?

Before WAF goes into meltdown mode,i am going to have to rebuild from scratch. Unless...........

Since i have been using EIT for the EPG, maybe injecting an XML guide using something like Nialls Bigscreen EPG might work? If the Channel scan is failing, but TUNEUP is showing 100% signal, i would assume that once the Channel data is set, it would still recieve live TV?

Might try that but that will be 3 Days without live tv now. No wonder the product never really took off. Even after running for years, Media center inherits performance issues and obscure faults over time.

Since trolling all the usual forums came up with nothing for my issue. I'll put a bottle of cheap scotch on the line that no one has the answer, the scotch going to me. If someone should have the answer, well, online ordering is a great thing, just change the delivery address and send the goodies (if your over 18 and in Aust only)!

Ok, My Setup is Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet again. My issue forced me to ditch EIT and go with BSEPG. Guide data is soooo much better.

What did i do to recover my tuners. 2 things but i suspect the second point is the clincher.

1) Changed drivers to the Downloaded versions i was using originally. This was a manual force of the driver overriding the default Microsoft auto detect drivers.

2) Used TUNERSALD to reset my Tuner count back to 4. I believe this is the fix. Why........

Because all the Tuner priorities etc are not exposed, in either registry or in the EHOME Mpeg DB's. Niall from Bigscreen can probably confirm this. Tunersalad access this area of MC and reset it.

I suspect that the TV SIGNAL setup was access old TUNER config from wherever it's stored, and that TUNER CONFIG was not valid, therefore not detecting a signal.

SO try Tunersalad and reset the tuners, or set them to 8.

I dont believe this fixed it, just co-incidental.... Who knows? Everything i've read comes to no conclusion or resolution. Just keep at it and try everything until its sorted out.

Just wanted to resurrect this thread and ask if any of the first few posters ever got this issue sorted out? I've just had to reinstall windows 7 (32 bit) on my HTPC after a C: drive failure and media centre now won't detect any channels during the initial setup.

The tuner (TinyTwin USB) works as I've tested it using Media Portal and DNTV live but I prefer the old WMC interface that we've been using for over a year now. Also, when I tried the USB tuner on another computer running 64 bit windows 7, media centre found all of the channels during setup.

This is very frustrating. Anyone found a solution besides Innie808 (I don't know if your issue was exactly the same as mine). I've tried doing the driver thing but media centre is still not working (whereas media portal and other 3rd party software works without issue), so the issue is with my media centre on 32 bit windows 7.

Please help.

leucopogon have you tried downloading the latest drivers for the TV tuner?

Have you tried clearing the tuner and guide data and tried retuning the channels? This guide might help: http://www.hack7mc.c...dia-center.html

Yes tried both of those but still no channels found. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm running with media portal now and finding it ok bit I definitely miss media centre. Might try an OS reinstall as a last roll of the dice.

Well one of the odd things it seems to do from time to time is actually detect
channels, but can't find the inband data to determine what it has actually
found. If you let it go through to the bitter end, then look in tasks>settings>tv
>guide>edit channels.

The frequencies my have been tuned and you just need to assign them to
a guide line.
