Hi,On the subject of the PlayTV. Is it plug and play for the USB connection? Can I just plug one of these into a USB port and Mythbuntu sees it and can address it?
Yes. For mythtv to use it, you still need to add it in the backend.

I ended up getting the Kaiser Baas HD Homerun. JB HiFi had them for $167, which, considering my other choice was ordering from Qld (see my earlier post and link) for $145 plus shipping and more of my time, seemed like an OK deal. But I got chatting to the guy about other stuff and then asked if he could do a better price. Without batting an eyelid, he relabelled the price tag to $127.00. I couldn't believe it. So I walked out with two of them for that price. He also had the PlayTVs (a few of them for $89.00) that he offered me for $75 each for two. But I like the look of the Kaiser Baas, and prefer it for the fact there is bundled PC software that allows me to watch TV over the network on my PC.
So I'm in the middle of rebuilding my Backend/Frontend machine and have put an extra gigabit network card in it. I'm figuring that I run one of these, dedicated, via direct network cable to the Backend. This way I don't hammer the rest of the network - which is full gigabit anyway. But on the second Kaiser Baas I thought I would put that on the LAN and address it from the other PCs in the house and use the bundled software to watch TV. At the same time, I tell Mythbuntu that this is the secondary card so it can use it if it ever needs the extra tuner.
The question here is can I do that in so far as to have Mythbuntu take control of one or both of the tuners on the second unit - even taking control when somneone is already tunen in via a PC? Or will the fact that someone using the tuner over the LAN mean they have a lock on it? No big deal... just wondering.

I think it means they have a lock. I just bought three of them and avoided the issue

Good buy.
I would probably also select open card on demand, so that myth doesn't lock the tuners first for no reason.

Any idea where I would find that option? I looked in the Capture cards settings but couldn;t see an option for either of the tuners (I've only installed one of the HDHomeRun's as yet).
Thinking that it might be an initial setting when you add a card, I tried adding a capture card and couldn't see anything. But now I can't seem to fdind how I delete this one card without deleteing "all capture cards".

You were very close
In capture card setup for each card, then recording options? (not looking at it)
It's just a checkbox for open dvb card on demand. Maybe it's different because of the homerun being a network card.

Hi Lester
Maybe it's not there? Can't find it for the life of me. No dramas. I've allowed the Myth box to see only one of the HomeRun devices and allowed the network to see only the other. This works fine. So PCs can get TV. The best part is from the HDHomeRun I can stream TV to the iPad using an app calledTV Streamer (which then also needs a particular player called GoodPlayer. Love the HDHomeRun.
