So I had to rebuild the HTPC over the weekend after the SSD went bye bye's. It's the first time in 2 years :-)

I run an ATI 5xxx series video card. It's connected to a Denon Amp and then the Pana TV via HDMI.
I have created a monitor INF via Monitor Info Manager with everything on and working, and installed that as the Monitor driver.

However after having the TV and Amp turned off, on restart there is no audio, and the HDMI audio device is showing as non attached.

I used the latest ATI drivers. What am I forgetting to do? All hardware is the same (apart from the SSD) so i must be missing something I did last time. I definately didn't use any HDMIOn util, I am pretty sure it was just the EDID over-ride. What can I be doing wrong??

Cheers

indeed some googling seems to show bit of a common issue, question: was the AMD HDMI audio driver selected at time of AMD CCC install ? i always do a custom install of AMD CCC to ensure all the required components are selected.

also i use the AMD HD 5570, using 11.8 and now 11.12 and also use EDID override ( i also use a Panna TV ), but not experienced this issue, perhaps worth a try ?

also, what was the Win 7 configuration last time, ie the base installation and what updates were applied post install?, perhaps different base and or updates applied this time ?

just to clarify a few things

1. are you turning off your tv?, or putting it into standby ? i only ever put TV into standby ( as it only uses 0.4 watt in this mode )

2. do you have an avr connected between htpc and TV ? and if yes, are you turning off AVR, or putting AVR into standby mode ?

Yes I installed the ATI HDMI driver, I too always do a custom install.

The Win7 install should be the same, all updates and SP's loaded.

Maybe it's the 12.4 ATI drivers, i'll try 11.12

Thanks, i'll try some back versions too!

So 11.12 seems to have fixed the problem. Bloody ATI.

BTW - how quiet is this place these days??

i've always found month's 1 to 6 or 8 in ATI drivers are good to avoid, and that latter months 8 to 12 drivers always seemed to have been on the better side of quality.....now it looks like version 12 is no different.

Think i'll steer clear of 12.x until at least Sep or Oct....

it's not just ATI that have bad patches, the reality is all vendors do....

Sweet, will try this tonight as well.

My HTPC was running sweet but also updated to SSD and have the same issue. Runs "fine", then sleep PC, (with monitor still on) when I turn PC back on again I have no issues. If I sleep the PC, turn off monitor, then start PC with monitor still off then it has issues with Audio (HDMI Audio device missing). Will try 11.12 later.

Hope this fixes it!

Wow, i'm surprised if ATI actually did fix this in the driver or something else changed. I have nvidia and could not solve this at all. Something changed on my system a few months back which triggered it, i suspect a Windows update although i could not trace it back.

When the TV is turned off, it generates an AUDIO ERROR, and has actually caused Blue Screens on my Setup.

Microsoft's official stance is the "Hot Detectable Display Device" is a part of the OS design. It's crap.

I was so peeved because i used to use VMOTE on the ipad to play back music through the media center and Yamaha AMP without ever needing to have the TV On. That all changed.

See this thread...

Monitor off detection?

I did the "Cover Pin 19 on HDMI cable" as shown in that thread, and it works perfectly. IT could be that ATI have stopped detecting signal on PIN 19 through their driver. I wonder though....
