Yep, I know this is a retro app, but I still use it on occassion as it usually just works.

When I record on a HD channel and don't want to keep the program as HD, I use Crunchie to convert to avi at SD and it usually works well. The other night I recorded a movie on GEM (HD) that was transmitted as 2.35:1. I removed the ads in VideoReDo and saved as mpeg then ran Crunchie to convert and lower the resolution (smaller file). Anyway, Crunchie changed the aspect ratio to 16:9, making eveything tall and thin.

I can't find any settings regarding this. How can I get the correct aspect ratio to be maintained?

Arkay will have to confirm, but I'm pretty certain it won't have 2.35:1 native support as it's TV centric.

Was it really broadcast at 2.35:1 & not 16:9 letterbox?

It was probably letterboxed. The channel's watermark was conpletely in the black bar under the image. Crunchie removed the top and bottam black bars (and watermark) and reformatted the actual image to 16:9.

Glen,

Not much can be done about that. The AR's were hard coded in Crunchie trying to make it simple for everyone. The software tries to detect the aspect ratio and encodes it based on what it found. Sadly it sometimes gets it wrong. It's been that long I don't even remember exactly what it does. If it chops the black bars off then I'd think it should keep the aspect ratio it was in, without the bars. Dunno.

Maybe just encode that one manually?

I didn't even know the old girl still ran under Windows 7 :D

Cheers,

Arkay.
