It's finally here, MCEBuddy 2.0 BETA 20

You can download it from:

https://sourceforge....ebuddy2x/files/

PLEASE UNINSTALL ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF MCEBuddy BEFORE INSTALLING BETA 20. BETA 20 installation is not compatible with BETA 19 due to a bug in BETA 19. Uninstallation of BETA 19 is very important.

There are MANY enhancement and bug fixes to this version, most notably the major ones are:
1. Fixed access to network shares protected with a username and password (Bug Fix)
2. Added support to change the priority of the jobs (you can set it to low and play games :) (Feature Request)
3. Added support to change the temp working directory through MCEBuddy.conf file. You can now specify the temp working folder (e.g. D:\Temp) under "TempWorkingPath=" (Feature Request)
4. Fixed a crash of application if ReMux failed (Bug Fix)
5. A new encryption module to keep you network passwords save in a safe manner (Bug Fix)
6. Fix various installation issues to make future installation/upgrades easy (Bug Fix)

KNOWN ISSUES:
1. Windows 64bit version of MCEBuddy fails to convert MP4 files properly. This is a problem NOT with MCEBuddy but with the underlying FFMPEG module it uses which does NOT support Windows 64bit. This will be fixed in the next release

Have fun guys

I downloaded and installed 2.0 Beta 20. It would not run at all on my system. The system would start to load the GUI.EXE then it would die. The service would not run.

It would not uninstall cleanly. I removed it by removing all references to MCEBuddy from the registry and re-installing Beta 18 which runs fine.

OS: Windows 7/64
CPU: Core i7 Quad
Memory: 32GB
Disk system:
Internal Drive 0: SATA RAID-1
C: 100GB
D: 1.2TB, MCEBuddy installed on this disk partition
External drive 1:
L: 8TB (eSATA RAID5)
System board: ASUS P8P67
NIC: Gigabit (on system board)
Video card: GeForce 210

you're right, I just downloaded the 64 bit version and it crashed on my system too, but it installed and uninstalled very cleanly (if you started witha clean install, ie. uninstall the older version).

This is very wierd because I did test the 64bit before zipping it up and uploading it and it worked perfectly. I think it's corrupted.
I am pulling down the 64 bit version for now.

However I did try to use the 32 bit version on Win7 64bit and it works fine. you can try thhat for now, use the 32bit version on your comp and let me know how it goes.

Please note that MP4 High Quality profile is sporadic on Win64 systems for now, but Normal Quality and other Apple profiles do work, including Stream Copy. that's something look into for the next release which will be more focussed on Win64 systems.

I will recompile and reupload the 64bit version for the next release. sorry about that. Let me know how the 32bit version goes. I'm looking forward to your feedback on how the 32 bit profiles run on a 64bit system.

Thanks,

Ramit

Thanks, I thought I was going nuts. I'm downloading Beta20/32bit now. Beta18 is processing a file so it will be a couple of hours (probably tomorrow) before I can uninstall 18/64 and install 20/32. I don't know why the uninstall didn't work right for me.

Thanks for the effort, too. I'm looking forward to 20 so I can move the working directory to a different disk: should speed things up to go across spindles and work across the network, too, when necessary.

I'm still playing with quality vs. size and time. I'm using a "normal" quality starting point then raising the quality setting by 20%. MP4/Normal was pretty good but I could see some differences in facial tones, so I wanted to try a slightly higher quality.

OK, I'll download it and try. The 32 bit version would not install on my machine, either, though. I stopped the Engine, then uninstalled Beta 18, then ran setup.exe. It ran for while then I got a message (screen capture attached). I was installing to D:\Program Files (x86)\MCEBuddy. The installation routine created the directory but, obviously, the service was not there. I deleted the directory and tried again, using the C: disk instead. Different error, again related to the service, but I didn't capture it. I tried setting setup.exe to "run as administrator" and it crapped out that way, too.

I'll re-install Beta 18 to make sure it still works, then uninstall and try the 64 bit again.

That's very wierd. Can you let me know what version of Windows you're using? (Win 7, Vista, Server etc) and I'm assuming it's 64 bit?

I have tested this on Windows 7 64bit and 32 bit.

Can you also do a favor and check the following:
1. Do a complete uninstall of MCEBuddy
2. Delete the MCEBuddy directory
3. Reboot the comp
4. Start services.msc from the run prompt and check if MCEBuddy service is showing up (it should be gone completely)

5. If the service is still showing up, from an Administrative Command Prompt (you can't do it from a regular cmd.exe) try to delete the service by typing the command "sc delete <The exact service name shown as shown on the screen>"

6. Now try to install MCEBuddy 2.0 x32 or x64 and let me know how it goes.

Thanks

Good to hear the problem was solved Steve.

Keeping this a note reference for other users with installation issues.

The key is to delete the service using the sc delete <service name> command if the uninstallation fails as it will prevent new installations from registering the new service causing the installation to fail.
