Hi all

I am hoping someone has some suggestions because I am going a little crazy over here...

I have an HTPC (that I purchased built). It has been working great for about a year and then two days ago it suddenly declared that it could not find my dual tuners. I have deleted and re-installed the drivers but still get regular errors, the EPG comes and goes as it pleases and the playback of live TV and even recorded shows is choppy.

Up until this bizarre occurrence - it has mostly been running very well and very smoothly (aside from some minor recording challenges).

I am running Windows 7, Media Centre with Media Browser.
The tuners are Leadtek Winfast DTV 2000 S (I think)

Any ideas why suddenly the problems - and why even playback seems choppy (when this has NEVER been a problem before.

Only other changes that I can think of is that I installed iTunes to deal with the iPad...but I can't see that as being the problem.

Please help
Thanks

Hi,

I'd do a system restore to before itunes, to rule that out, just in case!

I have had this problem a couple of times over the last year..it seems to happens after a reboot when I have have the machine up for a long time(like a couple of months)..I haven't worked out why it does it but come up with a quick fix...

the solution: remove the tuner cards... restart windows without the cards installed.. shut pc down put the tuners back in and restart windows.. it will automatically detect the new hardware and use existing drivers, with tuner setting in MC intact (ie no need to rescan channels etc..)

I agree with both the previous posts. Also check your antenna cables and connectns. Likely to be something simple

I made a post recently under another topic regarding a similar issue.

http://www.pcmediace...post__p__325467

In each instance my usually very reliable 7MC HTPC lost my DTV2000DS tuner card. I mean completely lost it. Oddly my PCTV dual tuner card was not lost and continued to work just fine.

As I said in my other post we should not be having to remove cards in the 21st century just so windows can find them again once reinserted.

My feeling is that this is a windows update issue affecting the driver for the DTV2000. Once I had done the remove/reinsert, reinstall drivers I made sure automatic update was disabled as this definitely inhibits it from happening again. If you are still getting choppy playback I would suggest you check your tuner sources to make sure that 7MC hasn't selected an offset channel while you weren't looking.

I'd probably do a rescan if you are not sure. If all else fails then you can do a media centre reset but that is a bit radical at this stage.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have installed the latest drivers and everything seems to be working again.

I still can only receive the EPG over-the-air but I guess that will do :)

Very interesting to read about the possibility of Windows updates causing the trouble.

Its either OTA or pay a third party provider. IMO icetv is well worth it.
