One for the Android gurus out there. A while ago I upgraded by Samsung Galaxy S to V2.3.3 using the official Optus upgrade. Basically, I'm not happy ith it. A few of the features in V2.2 were changed - not for the better in my view - and my battery usage has increased (without any new apps added). I really would like to go back to V2.2.

I've Googled around and got confused as to whether you can or can't roll back. Does anyone know where I can find a good, step-by-step how-to for this?

I have access to another phone of the same model which still has the original V2.2 it shipped with, so I could grab an image from that to get me the firmware (if that's possible).

As you've probably guessed, I'm not yet offay with what can and can't be done with Android. Steep learning curve right now, so any guidance would be appreciated.

You can find the stock ROMs around (e.g. on Whirlpool), but you need to use ODIN to load them up (& the phone needs download & recovery mode), & I don't think it will be a rollback, but more of a wipe & fresh install.

Sorry, but it's been ages since I used a stock ROM & Kies, so I don't know if you can do it through that.

FWIW, on my custom ROM (Darky 10.2.2 which is 2.3.5 based & runs EXT4 file system), I rarely use more than 25% of the battery in a day now (it's still at 92% so far today). Might get down to under 50% if I'm hanging off it all day.

What are the detrimental changes from 2.2 to 2.3.3? I agree about the USB mode selection - PITA. One thing that I've noticed is that wifi takes longer to automatically hook up to a known access point when you drift in to range.

The deterimental changes are mainly the two you mention, Justin; USB selection and longer to hook up to WiFi. If it was just that, I could live with it, but the battery issue is just getting to me. the wife's phone (still on 2.2) gives much better life.
