I'm having some problems successfully converting episodes from the same series to the "M4V Apple Fast" profile and I can't figure out if this is simply a function of how the network broadcasts the episodes or if there is a way I can manage it. The episodes all successfully convert to a file that will play in iTunes. However, after conversion, I can see that one of the episodes has a maximum width of 1280 which plays fine on the iPad. Another episode of the same series has a converted maximum width of 1920 which will not play on the iPad (but will play in iTunes).

Both episodes of the series were recorded from the same HD channel. The M4V Apple Fast profile shows a default maximum width of 720 and I have left this setting alone. But neither episode got a maximum width of 720.

Changing this setting to 1280 and converting the original .WTV file again still gives a converted file with a maximum width of 1920. As a workaround, I am able to then convert the M4V file from the first pass to a maximum width of 1280. (So this is a "conversion of a conversion" if you will.)

When I right click on the original .WTV file and view the properties I do not see any information describing the maximum width of the original file. So I'm wondering if this was simply a function of the show from the network? Am I not using MCEBuddy correctly (entirely possible!)?

Another episode of the show will be on in a few nights so I'll have to see how that one turns out. But in the meantime, I'd be interested in hearing any suggestions. I don't like the workaround I've used because it takes so doggone long to do a conversion. Would love to find something better.

Although I hate "me too"s...me too. Actually, none of the profiles appear to follow the maximum width setting as placed in the slider. I've tried adding the -X 720 line to one of the Apple profiles under the video line, but then it appears to not work at all. Ultimately the width of the re-encoded video file is the same size as the original .WTV file.

Don't know if everyone is still having the problem. I got it working on my machine after a little experimentation. :)

I cloned the 'normal' in the config file, called it M4V iPad.
I added the '-w 1024' as shown below. Working fine on my iPad 1.

handbrake-video=-e x264 -b 2000 -w 1024 -x

If the '-w 1024' is after the '-x', nothing happens. :)

@timekills

The width on the slider indicates the maximum width, ie. if the video width > max width then it resizes it. Else it remains the same.

If you want to manually specific the width in the profile settings, add this line to the profile as well (which instructs MCEBuddy not to auto adjust the width.

fixedresolution=true

Now you can adjus the width manually by adjusting the profile parameters.

Can someone help me understand what the issue.

The slider didn't work, at least for the Apple presets. HD material recorded at a width of 1920 stays at that width and can't be transferred to the iPad.

Yes I found the bug that prevents it from resizing the video.

It will be fixed in Release 21 - look for it :)

Thanks for reporting this. I would love some additional videos too to test it.

Recording 10 minutes of a HD WTV. You should see it tonight (US time). :)
Tried a 1 hour show (6GB). Probably not a good idea......

OK. Uploaded. You should have some commercial time in there too. That hasn't worked yet in 2.x with Apple presets. :)

@SirDave,

Thank you very much for teh sample video. I've tested it and it's working perfect on MCEBuddy 2.1 Release 1 (the next release). So yes the bugs have been fixed, it's resizing perfectly on the apple profile also.

I would realll really apprecaite if you can upload the entire 1hr video (6gb) to my server. It would be extremely help for testing as I don't have many long HD video's.

Thanks,
Ramit

Still trying to upload. FireFTP won't upload more than 2GB. FileZilla kept crashing & restarting around 2GB. Nothing like 12 hours wasted. :)

Windows FTP timed-out after two hours & around 6% of the file uploaded. :)
