For some reason I have noticed that I seem to get issues with playing 1080p MKV files. For the most part they play fine but every so often I notice that the video goes all funny. It goes very pixelated but for the whole video not just a small part. I would even describe it as washed out.

I'm not sure why this is and really can't see why it would be doing this. My specs are in my signature but I am running a Nvidia G210 graphics card and the processor is an Intel E4500.

Any suggestions? I really don't think that it is under powered.

Go in to settings->video->playback (I think it is), and make sure that VDPAU studio colour correction (or something like that), is unchecked. Every time I've seen it turned on it washes out the colours, blacks look grey etc etc. The pixelation is most likely something to do with the VDPAU options so play with those till you get it right. There's only a few options to configure. Also press menu while playing a video. Go into the video sub menu and make sure the deinterlacing is turned off as that can cause CPU issues if it's set to use a software deinterlace method. There are also some extra VDPAU options under there you can tweak as well.
Cheers,

Arkay.

I think the issue was that vdpau wasn't even turned on in settings. It was set to auto but having a read around people indicated that it needed to be set to vdpau.

Everything else you mentioned appears to be fine
