I have an old one.

I'm not interested in connecting to Foxtel.

If someone who is wants to buy me a new one they can have my old one.

Hmmm, I might take you up on that. When did you buy it and where are you located? Cheers

Can't find a purchase date. But its only been used with Windows 7 Media Center. When did the beta of it come out, early 2009?

It says its a HDHR-EU (AU).

I'm in the northern suburbs of Adelaide.

That's the right one. But I managed to swap a new model for an old one with a mate living nearby (Brisbane). :D

Next problem is that my Smargo card reader has crapped itself and I am waiting for a new one to ship from http://www.hillsdist.../prod_419.html. <_<

Well, my wife forgot to tell me my Smargo had arrived :D . Fired it all up and tested everything out.

Everything works great. I don't have a HD subscription but I could watch 7mate HD, ABC News 24 HD and GEM HD. They were very smooth and no artifacts appeared. Loving it.

The new version of the HD Homerun HDHR3-DT http://www.silicondu...hdhomerun/dvbt/ being imported into Australia doesn't have DVB-C capabilities, only DVB-T. So no Foxtel cable :(

I have been talking to the Australian distributor and if enough people are interested, they have kindly offered to speak to Silicon Dust and possibly get in the European HDHR3-EU version http://www.silicondu...homerun-dvb-c/. This model does support DVB-T and DVB-C and is roughly equivalent to the old Oz model but with only one aerial connector. It would be at a higher cost to the new DVB-T only model.

So the questions are:
1. Who uses it for Foxtel DVB-C successfully now?
2. Who would be interested in getting hold of the new DVB-T/DVB-C capable version?

1) Me......, With Oscam/AcamD and a Jaycar reader.., Beats RCA capture card HANDS DOWN, quality is truly SD Digital (Only have SD Foxtel).

2) Possibly, as long as it was GUARANTEED DVB-T/DVB-C. But my current HDHOMERUN is working fine right now.

I have said on HDHOMERUN forums that it is a GREAT piece of kit, and I was not lying, I love the quality it gives my recordings from my Foxtel subscription.
I only came across it trying to see what DVB-C solutions there were available, and hey presto, over the counter (well through the post) in Australia.

Kazdalk,

I have the old hdhomerun (with dual PAL connectors on the back) and am currently using it for DVB-T FTA and am in the process of looking to purchase a DVB-C tuner to experiment with Foxtel. Are you saying the hdhomerun (old version) will do DVB-C as well DVB-T?

Nods like a lunatic..., Yes, Yes it does.

Qam64 (Foxtel SD)
Qam128
Qam256 (Foxtel HD).

This might be the reason tbergman's cable tuners couldn't pick up the HD channels on cable. Must not be capable of tuning 256-QAM.

I guess kind of akin to DVB-S2 in the satellite world (and no, I don't mean technically).

Yes, Foxtel HD channels/IQ2 are DVB-S2 on Satellite. (Or VAST, which as far as I am aware, is 100% DVB-S2, no DVB-S channels).

Correct on both counts, but not at all what I was getting at. He is a cable user, not a satellite user, and the analogy I was making was that Foxtel HD on cable is broadcast on a different spec, just as on satellite it is broadcast on a different spec (DVB-S2).

Well, all I know about Free to Air HD on Cable (If I am thinking of the right user here), is the ones transmitted by Foxtel themselves as part of their HD lineup.., for which you *NEED* to be subscribed to their IQ2 package, as all the FTA HD channels are encrypted under NDS. So, in order to receive FTAHD channels using Homerun, it will have to be using DVB-T from a Roof antenna (If he is within adequate digital coverage). However, if You *DO* have IQ2 subscription, then the HDHOMERUN is more than capable of receiving FTAHD via Foxtel cable. (Proven that, with the help of someone with an IQ2 sub).

Windows Media Center *DOES* list all the FTAHD channels in my system, just cannot view them.

You've again missed the point of what I was saying. His problem isn't with encryption, he can't TUNE the channels, and he said it was due to his cable tuner. Now we know why.

Foxtel has encrypted the channels now, however they weren't encrypted at the time.

Don't worry, I wasn't asking anything, I was just making an observation.

I have an old HDHomerun that is DVB-C capable. My TV antenna does not pick up ABC, 7 and SBS at times. I also have foxtel HD2. Can I just plug the foxtel cable into my HDHomerun(without a card reader) and scan for the SD free tv channels or are they all encrypted?

Yes, I can watch 7, 7 two, 7mate, Go!, GEM and 9 in Brisbane by doing as you say. Give it a go.

I tried in Melbourne, but couldn't pick anything up. Maybe they are encypted here? Do I need to change anything in the settings boxES, where it say QAM and a set of numbers? Sorry not at home at the moment - can't remember exactly what it says.

Hmmm, I do remember there was a trick to find the channels. In HDHomeRun Setup in the Tuners tab I have one of the tuners set to Digital Cable, on the DVB-C tab I have QAM64 6950, QAM128 6950 and QAM256 6950 in that order. Then I just did a Digital Cable scan with the correct tuner selected. I think the important part is the order of the Modulation and Symbol rates on the DVB-C tab. Cheers
