A few months ago I added a modification which allowed thread starters and Moderators to activate a [SOLVED] thread prefix once an issue had been resolved. Following the upgrade to the forum software that option became defunct, however I'm pleased to advise that I've been able to reinstate it.

Below is a copy of my original announcement for your information.

===================================================================

I've been keeping my eye on this modification for a long time now and it finally reached the point where it's become stable enough to implement here without bringing the house down!

Because we're a tech support community, I've always wanted to be able to provide members with the ability to mark their problems as solved once they've been sorted out, but until today it hasn't been an option.

If you take a look under "Thread Tools" at the top right of each thread, you'll see a new option to "Mark this thread as solved":

For this to work and be useful to others, once your problem has been solved or question answered, we need you to mark the thread accordingly. As time passes we'll be able to build a list of threads which detail resolved issues which will hopefully make finding solutions a little easier for everyone.

Of course there will be times when a solution has been found and marked as [SOLVED] only to find later that it really wasn't and that more help is needed. When this happens, the original poster (thread starter) has the option to go back to "Thread Tools" and tag his thread as [UNSOLVED]. Please note that only the thread starter and our Moderators are able to mark threads as solved or unsolved.

One of the options with this modification is to automatically close [SOLVED] threads. After discussion with the Moderators we've decided against that as we believe that quite often, additional questions or comments will arise even after an issue has been fixed.

You will also notice that when starting a new thread, the [SOLVED] prefix is available up front. Unfortunately I cannot disable that, but of course we wouldn't expect anybody to select it when posting a new question would we? ;)

Finally, assuming a solution is found and the thread starter forgets to mark the thread as solved, anyone else who feels that it needs to be tagged should either report the thread (Posted Image) or contact myself or one of the Moderators and we'll take care of it.

If anyone comes across any problems whilst using this feature, please post details below.

Hey Mike - has this option been removed again or am I going crazy?

Sorry I missed this one - such are the perils of accessing via 2 different PCs... :o

[Solved] should still be available, however it's only activated for those forums where problems can be solved.

If there's a specific one I've missed, let me know the thread URL or forum and I'll take a look.

No problem.... here they are, both under the IceTV topic... and I can see in the others I have that I can still mark them "Resolved"

Ahh - now I see why. I've always had the IceTV as a discussion only, non-support forum with "please visit www.icetv.com.au for IceGuide technical support" as the forum description. The reason was to ensure that all support matters were posted in their own forums where they could be addressed more quickly.

That said, the guys from Ice are over here all the time these days so I've enabled "solved threads" now and we'll see how it goes.

I would ask though that members continue to post support problems in the IceTV forums because that's where they'll do the most good for everybody, if they want to mention the outcome here with links back to their forum that's fine, but I'm sure the Ice guys would prefer to keep everything in the same place.

Mike :)

Thanks Mike... I also posted in the IceTV forum... just seemed there's a more active community here and when I searched for similar posts I found far more detail here than at the IceTV forum...

Cheers

Sorry about that - we had that feature until about a year ago when we running VBulletin - it was a hack I'd installed.

It hasn't been there since we moved to IPB forum in January this year.
