hey guys, just an update: abandoned ubuntu VM + Occam cause i couldnt work out how to get it working. setting up Occam and Cygwin worked extremely well, channel changes working great, no stutter, no pixelisiation works like a dream :D

now to task of fixing up the guide and data!

I know it may sound trivial but did you try inserting your card the other way?
I saw the same error when trying to get smargo to work and realised that the card should go in the other way around :o

Nah, I'm using newcs and it picks up the card fine, but oscam doesn't. So I'm pretty sure the card is inserted the right way.

One thing I've noticed, with newcs when you take a card out and put it back in again, newcs detects this and registers the card the second time. With oscam if I take a card out and put it back in nothing happens. I guess this means that oscam could never really detect the card in the first place, or it isn't designed to be able to notice a card being reinserted while it's already running.

I'll have to ask ideas_man what he meant by pulling the card out and re-inserting a few times to get it to work.

___

camyoung11, can you post your config files (blockout your boxid if you have one)

Well done, what ECM response times are you getting and what card reader are you using? What channel change times are you getting?

It's not OScam. I can reinsert my card and OScam detects it. In fact the way i have it setup now on a reboot of my physical machine, i have to reinsert the card after a reboot. (because i'm passing the com through to the ubuntu VM).

Have you got detect=CD in your oscam configuration?

Foxtel have free movies for a fortnight from 11th July. How will this work, will they send a card update down to give your card entitlements for this period? Will it come down with a 2 week expiry, or will it send another update down in 2 weeks to remove the entitlement?

Did anyone get an update on the weekend? I think one was due on Saturday morning but i didn't see anything in my oscam log.

I'm not sure how it's done, but if you just make sure that you have those channels setup in TVsource, you should be able to get them.

Yeah, understand that, just wanting to understand a bit more about how they do it. They must send an EMM update down for it, probably also use a 2 week expiry.

Where is the acamd log file when using acamd.dll with tvsource?

Ok found you needed to setup acamd.ini to setup logging which i didn't have.

Next Q. If you have IQ2 with HD channels, and you order an additional box (IQ1), will the card with IQ1 be able to get the HD channels (obviously not in the IQ1, but in HTPC)?

Ok I did some testing with my smargo in oscam in a native linux install rather than VM and there are differences in the ECM responses.

VM COM PORT ~340ms (smargo auto mode)
VM USB PORT ~650ms (smargo auto mode)
Native COM PORT ~320ms (smargo fixed 6mhz)
Native USB PORT ~230ms (smargo fixed 6mhz)
VM COM PORT ~280ms (smargo fixed 6mhz)

I'm using Virtualbox on windows 7 (my htpc) for the virtualization, results may be different with vmware but i cbf installing and testing it.

Even thought the OSCam documentation says mhz isn't used for smargo (smartreader) I did notice a difference in Native USB mode when changing the mhz line. THe smargo is fixed at 6mhz, but without a mhz= line i was getting around 270ms, but with a mhz=600 line i was getting the 230ms. However with the native com port, i got 320ms regardless of the mhz line.

Changing the fixed mhz mode with smargo tools (srp_tools_x86 -x ) did make a difference, in the Native COM PORT mode with fixed set to 3.69 i got ~400ms responses. which is actually higher than VM COM port.

So conclusion is that a physical machine may give you better responses and if you have a smargo, set it to fixed mhz mode to overclock the card. 6mhz is safe for the orange card, i've heard higher for the blue.

Um, no, I don't think I've ever seen that one... mind you I don't use it much, it's mainly for the family.

I was going to ask if you got a slideshow for ~10+ seconds when you switched to a Foxtel HD channel, before being fine (sometimes it lasts longer than a minute). I also get it on recorded TV from Foxtel HD channels. It doesn't happen to any SD channels or any FTA channels (in other words, MPEG-2 seems fine, H.264 off the satellite... not so much).

On my PC, it's perfectly fine, it only happens on the extender.

But I'll ask the family if they've seen any grey screens.

I'm using x64... which version are you using? (probably doesn't matter, but it might).
