Hey Guys,

I have just downloaded and installed a number of Hot Fixes including the latest SP for Vista Ultimate.

Ever since if I play a Video (Divx, Xvid etc NOT .mkv don't use them) then going back to library and selecting a new one freezes the old video and won't start the new video.

Anyone else getting that sort of behavior?

Might be time for Win7

Cheers

Willo

Using Sharks codecs!

Installed all Vista (recommended) updates yesterday + the cumulative update (KB974306) in the optional updates. No such behaviour.

Thanks Mate,

I have narrowed it down a bit.

If I stop the video it stops playback but I don't get the WMC transparent STOPPED screen with :-
Done
Restart
Delete etc

Then when I try another video it dies.

Using my DiNovo Min if I hit Stop once on the control bar on the bottom right corner of the screen nothing. Hit play the progress bar comes up on the bottom, hit stop again and whalla, the STOP screen and then I can load another video.

Weird!

I have a sound issue although it may be best to ask on the Shark codec forums. Has to do with 6 channel (5.1) AAC not being passed through.

Hi Willosy,
This problem cropped up a while back with a particular update. I have learned to live with it. Pressing stop and play a couple of times then exit seems to get it working again.
cheers,
Anthony

And I forgot to mention I have AAC 6 channel audio encoding to SPDIF fine withe the shark codecs (with a bit of fiddling) on Vista. Is your problem only with W7 or Vista as well?

I am only using Vista at the moment.

I upgraded to the latest Shark pack yesterday as I thought maybe this issue with video playback was related to the codec pack.

As you pointed out above, the issue is generic Windows issue.

I did however have issues with the latest codec pack which after proper config was decoding and sending AC3 and DTS to my AMP, but then would cut out intermittently. So it would work fine for 10 minutes then cut out for a minute or two, then come back.

AAC still not getting passed through.

I reverted back to v5.1.5 of the pack and configured it correctly and no drop outs in sound. Also in the sound output section of FFDShow Audio configuration and selected S/PDIF pass-through, but I also selected "AC3 (SPDIF encode mode)" box and only encode 5.1 sources and whalla.

Everything is completely working with older Shark007 v5.1.5 pack.

Am I to understand we have to live with the stop problem, or is there a fix?

As far as I understand it's a bug which was introduced as part of a hotfix. So I guess, live with it for now.

Shoot an email to MS support if you have a legit version of Windows. I think I will.

I've just rebuilt my vista media center and now have this exact problem. Before rebuild it was fine.
I really dont want to live with this annoying problem. This thread is marked SOLVED but i only see a workaround and not a fix.

Has anyone worked out which update caused it? So far I haven't installed any media center cumulative updates.

Edit: Oops I think it was SP2. :)

You don not have to.

My main Vista MCE and other MCE's have been running XBMC alongside MCE for a long time. I use it to play any format (no Blu-Ray of course) other than MS recorded shows but I also use it to play MS recorded shows over my shared network via other HTCP's throughout the house and WHS since it finds MS shares on other HTCP's in a fraction of the time.

Just my 2 cents.
