Hello can someone pass on a bit of advice about updating my Cpu Drivers.?

Just thought I would check my drivers and bring them up to date if possible and note my Intel ® Pentium 4 Cpu 540 3.20 GHz driver has a date of 1.4.2004.

After fighting my way through all the so called "Free Download Driver Managers"
who after you download tell you ....Now to Register and Cough Up ( Who if I had my way would have there bits removed without anaesthetic then nailed to there gate posts) Intel dont seem to mention this cpu unless I looked in the wrong place. Has anyone updated thier dual core cpu as above or is the 2004
version the only one relavent . Ver number 5.1.2600.0.

Thankyou for any help

I cant say that I've ever seen a CPU driver update, if there are any I would probably lean towards getting it through Microsoft's update page under optional updates. That has gotten some of my hardware working before and killed off all funcionality on some, but at least driver rollback seems to work most of the time.

Or you can look at Properties for your processor in System and see if "update driver" offers you anything. The driver for my E8400 was the latest available when I just tested now - dated 2006.

I made a complete fool of myself today by asking a few --> out there geeks <-- I work and live around.
The only way that driver is changing is if you can do a BIOS update that help get better recognition of the CPU happening. If the processor is being recognised correctly the there will be no updates possible, sad but true.

Um, you mention dual core but your processor is a Pentium 4 single core. There's five listed on the Intel site with that description.

Perhaps if you try their support and download centre you may find an answer.:)
