Hi all,

Great site - long time reader, first time poster, so thanks for all the advice so far. Now to my question.. :)

In the midst of building a HTPC and have managed to basically get everything working except sound through HDMI. Setup below:

MC: XP Media Centre 2005
Mobo: ASUS M3N-H/HDMI
TV: Panasonic TH-42PZ800A plasma
RAM: 2gig
HD: Seagate 1tb SATA

I've got an image displaying at 1080p through HDMI but can't get any sound through the TV. I'm using the latest Realtek HD audio drivers and the latest nVidia HD audio drivers. I've done some trial-and-error disabling in BIOS to no avail. I get audio through the onboard connections but nothing seems to be going through the HDMI. Everything driver-wise seems to be enabled and working as it should so I'm not entirely convinced it's the mobo and could possibly be some setting on the TV that I'm overlooking.. !?

Has anyone had success with HDMI audio on this setup or similar? Feels like this is the one last hurdle before I've reached media center nirvana..

Hi,

Also have no sound when using HCMI cable (Asus M3N28-EMH-HDMI).

Can get system sounds through PC but nothing when watching TV via Vista MC.

Any sugestions?

Neville

Ok mild success last night: reinstalled the nForce drivers supplied on the mobo CD, changed the audio device output in Control Panel / Sound from Realtek to Nvidia HD audio and immediately got sound! However after restarting the computer it's back to no sound again! :(

So it's definitely driver related. Now to find the right combination..

Your TV probably doesn't support the format of the audio being sent over HDMI. Go into the sound control panel and uncheck Dolby Digital and DTS (if it's there). See how that goes.

What about just using the onboard SPDIF digital audio?
Does you're TV have digital coax in ?

Thanks for the replies.

Well I got HDMI audio working by disabling the Realtek onboard and updating to the latest nForce HDMI drivers. Only problem now is that the TV decodes the audio signal to two channels only before outputting it to the receiver (which is really quite **** when you think about it) :(

So yeah, going to look at the S-PDIF solution instead and output the HTPC straight to the receiver. May need a coax -> toslink adapter for it though.
