DVD sound issues - Sound effects but no voice

I'm new to vista, and so far have only one gripe (which I'm sure is easily rectified - I just can work out how). Running Vista Home Premium and all up to date.
The problem: when playing DVD's in MCE, I get background sounds, sound effects but no voice track (regardless of language selected). I have switched off subtitles and unchecked the Mute with subtitles box (in Settings) - still no joy. This is common with all disks I play and changing audio options (5.1, stereo etc via the DVD Menu) makes no diffrence.
I have full surround audio with a wide variety of other video files, and with iTunes. I have the Vista drivers form my Realtek HD chipset (FS Scaleo E) - tried both the Microsoft update version and the Manufacter's version - same problem.
I have searched trhough this forum and Green Button - still no joy. Google is similarly unenlightening. i reckon it's just a setting that I'm missing.
Suggestions (other than a reinstall at this stage...)?
Regards,
Nic

I believe you are correct with it being a setting. A couple of questions;
1) What decoder are you using?
2) What connection type to your amp, ie S/PDif or channel outputs?
If its S/PDIF (optical or RCA) then you may need to check the DVD audio settings in MCE plus the Settings | General | Audio Setup to ensure you have S/PDIF selected.
I have done this myself while trying to get 5.1 working with an optical S/PDIF, I'm happy to report all is well now though.

If you have, try uninstalling their codec;
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\NeAudio.ax"
This worked great for me....

DDH asked which decoder I was using - good question....I downloaded the Microsoft decoder utility (http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en)
The microsoft MPEG2 decoder I had installed (forget which) was checked as Vista compatible, but not enabled. I re-ran the utility as administrator (I'm new to vista and getting sick of the safety features protecting myself, form myself...), enabled the decoder (it advised me that it was not MP10 compatible - but I believe I have 11 installed?).
That was all! I now have a near perfect, stable HTPC which plays any DVD...until I next start playing round.
I'm a bit embarrassed it was so easy..Thanks for your patience and assistance!
regards,
Nic

Great to hear. Remember just about all solutions look obvious once you've done them!

I'm having the same problem regarding the voice not being processed. I've tried multiple DVD / video players. I've also tried installing (and removing) many codec packages.
It worked fine when I first set things up here, but after installing a K-Lite package (which I've subsequently removed) the problem started.
I'm unable to run the utility he describes above, as I'm using Vista 64-bit and it won't install (even if I run as administrator). Does anyone have any alternate suggestions? I'm relatively certain it's a filter / codec problem as it occurred after I installed a K-Lite package.
Please and thanks for any help you can provide.

Uninstall Klite and install Shark's www.shark007.net then add the 64 bit add-on pack. All visible from the same site. That's what I use on Vista 64
