I have had a troll with little success on this topic.
I have multiple Dune players around the house for media streaming and would like to use them to wake my WHS.
I understand this means sending a magic packet.
The million dollar question is how do I get my Dune to do this?
Has anyone had this desire and subsequent joy in overcoming?
Looking forward to a response....

Panasonic Setup Issue

I have two Panasonic TVs. A 50" plasma and a 32" LCD. Both are set to native resolution of 1920x1080@50Hz and are set on the TV to 16:9 asprct.

While the plasma is doing what it should and putting pillars along side 4:3 content and bars above and below widescreen content, the LCD is doing strange things with aspect ratio. 4:3 content is being stretched to 16:9 and wider stuff is being zoomed to fill the screen.

I have been through every menu setting on the LCD and compared with the plasma, but I can't see what is causing this. Does anybody know where to check to make sure it plays back in the correct aspect ratio according to the source?
The LCD is a TH-L32E30A model, input is HDMI-HDMI form the MC. The plasma uses DVI-HDMI from the MC. Both use nVidia cards.

Genre Icons.

Hi all,

Build going well, good progress made and its starting to look more like an HTPC.

I do need help though with removing the borders around the movie genre icons if at all possible?

I am using a set from "Xzener" which look great, but would look much better without the borders.

The other reason for me wanting to do this, is that out of the whole set only 1 has a white background the "Thriller Icon" where as the rest are all black bordered, so it kind-a-stands out when scrolling through the genres.

I did read a post elsewhere about making them transparent, and although following what seemed to be a simple thing, it did not work.
Windows 7 Home Premium is my O/S.

Appreciated as always,

MY NEW WORLD RECORD BREAKING HTPC

After many PC & HTPC builds all using MSI motherboards (except one, An ASROCK Mobo) and MSI graphic cards completed over the last 6-7 years I decided to plan & start building my new (MONSTER) HTPC mid to late last year, I was set on using the MSI 990FXA-GD80 motherboard and slowly started collecting the parts, I am now currently waiting on the motherboard to arrive in the mail & a Corsair Force 60GB SATA 3 SSD to arrive at a local PC shop, I have put together a list & added up the cost so far>

(ALL PRICES INCLUDE DELIVERY)

Mobo MSI 990FXA-GD-80 $190

CPU BULLDOZER FX-6100 $136

CPU COOLER SILVERSTONE NT06-E $30

RAM CORSAIR VENGEANCE 2x4GB $50

VGA MSI N550GTX-Ti-M2D1GD5/OC $165

SSD CORSAIR FORCE SATA 3 60GB

HDD SEAGATE SATA 3 2TB STORAGE $143

PSU CORSAIR HX-650W $170

CASE SILVERSTONE LC13B-E $149

WHOOOAAAAA! = $1183 so far, Plus fans & odds & ends

Not too bad considering people spend more on HTPC cases than my whole system cost, All this would be worth heaps more retail, Or even worse, A complete assembled system like this would have to be worth up around $2000

http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p603/HTPC_TEC/MSI%20990FXA-GD80%20SILVERSTONE%20LC13B-E%20BUILD/SILVERSTONELC13B-E.jpg?t=1329623925

From looking around trying to find out info on the new Click BIOS 2 I came across some news that makes me very happy about my new (world record holding) HTPC build (I wont really need to overclock it much but its nice to know what it is capable of)>
I have WHS2011 which has the storage for my MCE boxes. It also runs My Movies.
I have changed the location of the win7 MCE personal folders to point to the appropriate shares on the WHS.

It all been working fine, but suddenly I am having issues on one of my MCE boxes when I go into "Videos", I can see the directory structure (that is on the WHS Video's share), but when I go into any folde I get a spinning wheel - I cannot see any videos. The other box still works fine.
From outside of MCE I can open video files from WHS Videos share with no issues.

Some channels suddenly stopped showing data

Hi there,

I've used Big Screen EPG for a few years with zero issues, mapping a single data source to multiple tuners (one hdpvr (now colossus), and a Nova T 500). I have zero problems with how to make it work, but I now have a couple of channels that are showing "No Data Available".

I've checked the EPG feed (in my case haventech in NZ) and the data is in the feed. The id in the xml file matches the id in the files_*** in the Channels tab of Big Screen EPG, but I'm still getting no data.

I'm unsure how the Channel ID / Sub ID works, and have tried to put in values in there with no result.

It's not all my channels only about 10% of them. Anyone knows how to fix when the data is in the feed?

Mythbuntu video playback exits back to menu

Not sure if this is a backend or a frontend issue. I'm running Mythbuntu 10.04 LTS on both frontend and backend and the hardware for each is mostly identical, save for the Tuner cards in the b/e.

While watching a movie (regardless of format... avi, mkv), during playback the movie just stops and goes back to the movie list folder. As though I had hit ESC. During a ~50 min TV Show (in the movies section of the system) it will happen 1 to 4 times.

From here on the scenario is the same: as soon as I try to restart the movie, the screen goes black (as though it's launching the player) and sits there for about 5 - 8 seconds and then drops back to the menu again. Then, as soon as I try to launch again, the movie starts perfectly.

I believe this has happened since I updated to v10 from 9.04 about 6 months ago. Network is gigabit throughout the house and this happens even with no other LAN activity.

I've tried searching in here but I can't see anything mentioned - though maybe not using the right terms.

Edit: version was 10.04 not 10.4

COMPLETE NEW HTPC FOR AROUND $500

Hi All, New here, I have been looking around for a good HTPC forum here in OZ and thought I would say G'day and have a look in here & hopefully offer some advice or help, I see lots of posts asking what parts to use.......

Thought I would show you all one of my new projects
I have been finding (BRAND NEW) bits & pieces as cheap as possible to put together a new build for a family member

The goal was to go with a compact micro-ATX motherboard and keep the HTPC case size (& COST) down to a minimum, Who needs a $500 or even $1800 HTPC case? I would much rather spend the money on the goodies inside

Here is a list of the goodies I used, With prices etc

(ALL PRICES SHOWN INCLUDED DELIVERY)

MSI 890GXM-G65 SATA III USB 3.0 $124
Classed as a micro ATX gaming style motherboard

AMD Athlon X2 260 3.0Gh/z $60
Plenty enough power for a HTPC

Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB $50
What can I say, 8GB of awesome Corsair RAM

Corsair CX430 V2 $42
Great reliability & warranty to back it up

Seagate 1TB SATA III 6Gb/s $90
Plenty of storage to get started

LOGITECH MK260 KEYBOARD & MOUSE $30 (Incl delivery from 500+ K's away)
10m range, Spill resistant keyboard (I include an MK260 with nearly every HTPC I build)

SILVERSTONE ML03 CASE $99 (LOCAL STORE PICKUP PRICE)
Great looking little case

SAMSUNG SATA DVD BURNER $22
Cheap enough & brand new with Nero 9

Obviously you cant buy these parts for these prices at the shops or even online retailers but if you are any good at finding stuff on an auction site you can pickup unwanted new stuff real cheap

This system would be great for someone starting out on a budget but would like to upgrade & be able to turn it into a fairly powerful machine later on

Waiting for Motherboard

Assembled and fired up for the first time

Installed Windows 7 64-Bit & all the needed software etc and it is running very smooth

I've been using Arkay's mythidle.pl script on my MythTV FE/BE with great success (thanks again Arkay!) but I also have a desktop box that I would like to use it on. This doesn't have a MythTV installed, so I assume the script would need some modification (i.e remove the check_myth()). But what I don't know is how to call the script. Do you use the Power Manager that comes with Xfce (my desktop environment) and when idle state is reached run the script, or perhaps turn off the power manager and call the script some other way and if successful, run a simple suspend.sh script?
I have Arch Linux on the computer, in which manner should I configure this?

MythVideo Metadata Disappearing

Hi Guys,

This has been somewhat of an issue for some time, but become much more prominent since moving to 0.25. No doubt due to the changes with how Video operates.

If i scan in metadata for my videos it all loads fine, and i see entries in mythconverg for them.

After a reboot, or suspend/wake, all metadata info is gone on the frontend (remote).

All entries are still in the mythconverg DB though.

Another, possibly related issue: With TV series', i have to "reset details" then "retrieve details" in order to get data for them. This certainly isnt right.

As one of my troubleshooting steps, i removed all entries in the videometadata table, to ensure it wasn't some issue there. The issue remains after doing this also.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Problems with ddfcxm's BBC iplayer plug-in

Hello all,

I use ddfcxm's iPlayer plug-in (v1.3 I think) for MCE on my two Xbox360's. Recently I have had my motherboard and processor die on me, and I've now replaced these with an Intel G620 with an Asus ATX board.

On first start with the new board Windows 7 downloaded all the necessary drivers for the new processor, and then everything I had installed previously worked perfectly. Except the iPlayer plug-in for MCE! I'm able to run the programme OK, then when I try to watch any programmes I either get a black screen or a whirling circle. This happens on the extender and on the MCE PC.

Could this be a DRM issue, as I have changed hardware? I can run iPlayer from my browser (Chrome) OK. Windows firewall is off, and all network settings are unchanged from the old motherboard.
