WOL WHS with a Dune?

I have had a troll with little success on this topic.
I have multiple Dune players around the house for media streaming and would like to use them to wake my WHS.
I understand this means sending a magic packet.
The million dollar question is how do I get my Dune to do this?
Has anyone had this desire and subsequent joy in overcoming?
Looking forward to a response....

Restoring pc from WHS, how to install Lan drivers?

I have to re-install my test machine c: drive from a WHS (version 1)backup.

The problem I am encountering: no network connection between the test machine and WHS.

Every time I get to the driver install window it shows the LAN card as detected (1) Realtek bla bla.
When I proceed I notice that the light on the lan port is not lighting up, so no luck of finding the WHS machine.

What else have I tried?

I loaded the ASUS lan drivers on a USB under a folder named DRIVERS, when I get to the "install drivers" window, I press install drivers which let's me proceed to the next window where I press "scan". Again it tell me the drivers are present but when I press "ok" it does not install any drivers at all and of course no network connection.

I also copied the drivers from the backup to the usb, tried again, it tells me it found the drivers but installs nothing.

What am i overlooking here?

Any comments will be appreciated.

WHS System Reommendations

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at getting a WHS (due to the increasing size of the digital data in our house) and was after advice on a good solid, system. I thought about building my own but just don't have the time. I see that Acer have the RevoCenter and HP also have options. What do other people here use? I don't need top of the range but need a good, reliable, solid system.

Thanks in advance

Streaming and syncing music from WHS 2011 to Android

I'm hoping others might have blazed the trail to listen to their Windows Home Server 2011 music collection on their Android phones, and would appreciate any advice you have.

I would like to do two things:

. Browse my WHS 2011 music Music folder from my HTC Desire and play tracks/albums on the fly
. Create a new folder on WHS 2011 with a limited set of music which I can sync with the Desire (compressing the version on the Desire I guess)

Is there one app that will do this for me? I've wondered about MediaMonkey and was about to install it on my WHS 2011 but got cold feet when it wanted to associate all music files. If I agree to that will it mess with normal WMP playback on Media Centre? And is MediaMonkey going to do what I want anyway?

which version of WHS

greetings,
I have recently retired my old xp media center machine and was thinking of re-using it as a windows home server.

Machine specs
i945 dual core, 3GHz processor
2gb RAM
1x 320GB hard drive

how well do you think this machine would run as a windows home server?

which version of WHS should I buy? would it run the 64 bit version??

Cheers

How to limit size of tv archive on WHS?

OK, so I'm automatically moving the tv shows recorded on my W7 Media Center to the Recorded TV folder on my WHS, as described here:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-recorded-TV-shows-using-Windows-Home-Server

My question: how do I limit the storage size of the recordings there? Before, when I was storing all recorded tv on a local drive on my W7 Media Center PC, I could specify how much storage space to use, such that Media Center would automatically delete the oldest recordings to make way for the newest recordings. But now, by moving files to my WHS, I fear I have lost this option? I'm assuming that recorded tv will continue to accumulate on my WHS until such time as I manually cull some of them?

Am I right, and if so, are there any ways around this? I *really* want to store recorded tv on my WHS, but not if I can't automatically restrict the storage usage.

Thx,

DDNS not updating - no remote access

I have a problem where the DDNS service I have subscribed to is not updating the IP address. This causes the regular failure of remote access, at least once a day. I have read that trasparent ISP caches/proxies can cause issues but ive read that iinet doesnt use them.

I am not a router settings expert and it has taken a long time just to get it to work, by dumb luck. My Draytek router doesnt seem to like the UPnP auto settings and I had to manually forward all ports. It also reserves port 80 and 443 for something else which I had to adjust.

Any ideas?

Some background:
ISP - iinet
Router - Draytek Vigor 2710
WHS - HP EX490
DDNS service - TZO - SSL off

Many thanks.

WHS 2003 - Copy Files from Mac USB?

Hi all,

I have an external USB hard drive that I use with my Mac's (formatted as Time Machine back up).

Last week I purchased a HP MediaSmart Server and I am having trouble trying to get WHS to read the Mac USB.

What software do you recommend I use to make the External USB compatible with the WHS Operating System (preferably free).

Also, I am having trouble installing third party applications (e.g MyMovies Server Edition). Whenever I click on the installation file the installer briefly launches and nothing appears. I am logged in as an administrator so am not sure why I would have this occurring.

Any ideas?
