Ah.. Laugh or cry. Dunno which way to go.

The BUZZ around the place at the moment is electrifying. Windows 7 this, Windows 7 that, the excitement is wonderful. Or at least it WOULD BE if anyone was actually receiving anything they shouldn't have already had.

My god. MS have it so God damned easy.

You've got drips in the media posting things like "The new OS appears to require less of a jump up in hardware capability than Vista did."

Of course it does. Everyone HAS new hardware from getting Vista... How the hell could it require more hardware hoop jumping? FFS, Do they have to treat everyone as complete and utter fools? Yet so many read this cruft and believe it.

And Wow!! MCE now supports Analog and Digital Tuners. EIT data. Hell, you can even ff/rew a media file!!! Isn't that amazing. Well worth forking out for a copy of W7 for sure.

No offence to the people that love their MCE's and the alleged ease of setting them up but FFS listen to yourselves.

Multiple tuners could have been enabled years ago. It's as simple as:

Num_allowed_tuners == 8

Along with the bit in the code that reads:

Allow_mixed_tuners=yes

The fact that it worked through registry hacking before hand just proves the functionality has always been there. But apparently now the blind will believe MS has a new "Tuner Engine" worthy of more $$$ for existing functionality now un-handicapped.

It's mind boggling just how much leeway a Windows user can give the company and how much more they're prepared to hand over for upgrades that represent the un-crippling of substandard software in the first place, all because the marketing material says it's so great. It's faster, it's leaner, it's better than Vista. Well. A 5th grade class could've written an OS faster, leaner and better than Vista. That's no advantage. I love how they're getting so much positive press because it's sooo much better than the greatest lemon of all time.

But there are already people bitching about how they can't play their DVR-MS files on W7, or how .wtv seems to have issues here and there. Again. THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE CHANGE to .wtv. I can't fathom the necessity to download a KB patch to make a god damned codec work.

Been using Myth/XBMC on Linux now for months and months and hey... Guess what. It still uses mpeg.. You know. The STANDARD. FFS MS. Stop stuffing with codecs to lock people in. Ok.. If it's a new format. If you've developed h268, with better quality, better compression, THEN you have the right to release a new codec, that's called "inventing" BTW.

But while the container changes and the format remains the same you do it solely to stuff around your well paying customers in order to stimulate software upgrades to support a new format that exists only for that purpose.

Interestingly everyone seems pleased by the fact that W7 uses a lot of Vistas drivers cause they are already available... More evidence of W7 being Vista II or rather Vista, finally debugged. And everyone is falling all over themselves to believe it is a "New MS OS".

It really is truly sickening. I wish MS would give me a job. I'd love to have people shovel money at me while I shovel crap at them.

Apparently it still does all the things that people hate, auto populating databases, slow thumbnail rendering, poor handling of pre-tagged mp3's etc etc.. Buy hey. It's sooooo great!

Of course there's all these people that can't tune all their stations with the same tuners and antenna's they've always used. But that's ok cause it's still a beta... Of course, for 8 years now they've pretty much had to use tuners to tune into tv stations. How the hell could something as basic as that not work, even at alpha stage? At any time, in any current version of any MS OS?

Be interesting to see how much it slows after 6 months of use. How many standby problems still exist. How difficult it is to map a simple network share from some other OS or even MS's own OS's, how much virus scanning and malware protecting it will still need etc etc.. It's all good though cause at least they've addressed the major issues. Like ff/rew of avi files, or running at a speed actually fast enough on a core 2 duo to be able to react to the user faster than they can type! :p

Hey MS. Can I have free copy of this one too? My Vista coffee coaster is getting a little warn and browned from coffee stains?

Cheers,

Arkay.
